Aluminium Weight Calculator

Theoretical weight for simple sections. For complex catalogue profiles, use the kg/m value from the catalogue.

Inputs

Calculation type
Section type

Use a decimal point (e.g. 1.5). Do not use thousands separators.

Result

Theoretical

The result appears here once you enter the dimensions.

Assumptions
  • Results are theoretical values calculated from nominal dimensions; production tolerances, corner radii and surface treatment (anodising, painting) are not taken into account.
  • Corners of box and angle sections are assumed to be sharp.
  • For sheet, the result is given in kg/m² and per sheet; kg/m is not meaningful.
  • Simple formulas are not applied to catalogue profiles; the kg/m value from the catalogue is used.

How to use

What is theoretical weight?
It is the weight calculated from the nominal dimensions and the selected density. The actual weight may differ because of production tolerances, corner radii and surface treatment; for orders and shipping calculations, use the value stated by the supplier.
How do I calculate the weight of a catalogue profile?
For profiles whose product page shows a catalogue value, use the “Calculate the total weight for this profile” link; the value is transferred to the “From a catalogue kg/m value” calculation. Flat bar or tube formulas are not applied to complex sections. Profiles whose value is “awaiting confirmation” are not transferred to the calculator.
Why is there no kg/m for sheet?
Sheet is measured in two directions. The result is given per square metre (kg/m²) from thickness × density, then per sheet and in total from width × length.
Which density should I choose?
If you know the alloy, select it from the list; the values and their sources are listed under “Density sources”. If you do not, 2.70 g/cm³ for 6060/6063, the alloys commonly used for profiles, is a reasonable starting point; for a different value, choose “Custom density”.
How should I enter numbers?
Use a decimal point (12.5). A comma is also accepted as the decimal separator; entries with a thousands separator such as “1,200” are ambiguous and return an error.
